Life has been going so well lately, I finished with the film and that looked lovely. I'm almost done managing a play and school is over in about 5 weeks!!! Oh and my family is coming this week, I'm so excited! It's so weird not going home this summer :( So I won't get to see them as much this year...but i'll see them in September for Hannah's baptism, October for Mary's wedding, Christmas, and then maybe Nate's graduation. Which by the way is crazy to think about! But even better, is my graduation next april, bwahahahaha, i'll be done with school. Next is hollywood :) Unless I get my way. But it's been a pretty good semester. And my experience with New Testament has been a great one. I think my professor Dr. Holzapfel would be proud to know that I really do feel that I have gotten to know Jesus Christ and the time He lived in so much better. And it is wonderful to be able to have knowledge that one can share one with another. I also love that the world has ongoing scholarship, helping us know more about Jesus Christ and the time period within He lived. I also know a few people going on trips to Jerusalem and when they talk about places they will be going, it's so fun to know what happened there. I find it enlightening that I have learned the facts from the fiction, and understand where Christians have improvised in how we see some of the stories. I probably haven't been the best student this year but it's been a great year. A class that I've shared with my husband and have learned immense things that have brought me closer to truly understanding the life of Jesus Christ my Savior.

Something not NT related...

TWILIGHT THIS FRIDAY!!!! Oh my gosh!!! I'm so excited!! I love the twilight books, I'm starting to love the cast, and it is just such a wonderful alternate reality to live in! I just reread the series again in the past two weeks and the books absolute suck me in. Stephanie Meyer writes so well and I think she writes so sensory. Which is exactly what I love in books, being able to feel what is going on. I also feel like I can relate to the teenage emotions and relationship is because I am one and have been through many, though I haven't dated a vampire unfortunately :) I love the way she also depicts all of the supernatural characters, Vampires are hott and sexy now not scary and gory. Anyways...enough enough about my love of adventures, love, and all things hott and sexy, which is all incorporated into Twilight!!

Anyways, I hope the movie does the book justice but I'm sure it will at least have plenty of its own merits!!!

I LOVE TWILIGHT!!!!!

There has been alot of this....

Its not exactly related to New Testament but there has been so much stuff going on about Prop 8 that I think everyone has their own opinion by now. I'm not from California and so I did not vote. But I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Which has been brought under much scrutiny since the passing of Prop 8. While a lot of the funding for Prop 8 came from Utah and from members of my church, the percentage of voters that were LDS was not that large. There were plenty of other people that also uphold traditional morals and voted to keep marriage between a man and a woman. This is what God and Jesus Christ have taught us, that marriage is between a man and a woman. The people of California had the chance to protect their families from the idea of homosexual marriage and they did so. And thus, I think people should stop blaming the LDS church members for what plenty of other people also agree to. There is so much I could say about the church's view on Prop 8. We are not discriminatory, we are just trying to uphold what we know to be true. The family unit and sacredness of marriage is very important to us and if we have a chance to uphold it then we should do all that we can to protect it.

To read exact church writings on the subject go to http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/commentary/sam-sex-marriage-and-proposition-8

I hate to post all in one day but.....

Last night Devin and I went to see Savior of the World. It is a play based on the birth and resurrection of Christ and it was performed in a small theatre in the conference center. I wanted to go because my friend Kyle was performing small roles as miscellaneous prophets, angels, and people. (He did a great job by the way, his passion for the gospel and life in general is astounding, especially when he is singing). Well I wasn't too excited for the play because I've seen so many things concerning the birth and resurrection of Christ that I didn't think they would be able to come up with a different perspective. But oh how I was wrong.

The play was awesome! They had the real world going on the stage and a loft of angels that would always be watching what was going on. It really reminded me of how true it is. There are angels all around us. It was also fun to get the perspective of Elizabeth and Zacharius and their relationship as well as the early relationship of Mary and Joseph when they were first becoming betrothed. There were so many elements that I loved in the play. And it was nice how the play focused on the birth and the hope that the Savior would give the world and then the Resurrection and how that also gives us hope. They did not need to show the crucifixion and it would've been way too long if they had gone through Christ's whole ministry. But it was just a lovely experience. As a theatre major their were some things that did not flow and some design elements that I would've done differently but what matters is that Christ lives and that his birth and resurrection gives us all hope. So that one day we might live with Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, and our families again!

MOA Exhibition

A few class periods ago, our New Testament class went to BYU's museum of art. I'm not sure if every campus has an art museum and so i think we are quite blessed to have one. I'm not too much of a museum person but I'm smart enough to not take it for granted. Especially because my great-grandfather designed the building :)

Since we are in New Testament, our class visited the religious art section. It was a little sad because it was not the main exhibition like last year, in which there were far more pieces to enjoy. But thankfully I was able to take advantage of last years exhibition and see all the religious art. This time there were only a handful of paintings, but it was still beautiful. We had a lovely lady tell us about a few paintings and explain some symbolism. I'm not too keen on someone explaining symbolism in paintings, books, etc. just because there are soo many possible answers. But it was good to know what some people interpreted them as.

One of the paintings that I especially loved was a modern painting with a cup of water, a cup of blood, and an empty cup I believe. And the way it was painted was so beautiful! To me the painting represented life, death, and the resurrection especially pertaining to the life of Jesus Christ. It also impressed me that such simple elements such as water, blood, and air could portray so much to me. It also reminds of the parables of Christ and how he would generally use simple everyday symbols such as water and bread.

I guess I like to post all in one day....

Alpine Loop...

A few weeks ago in class, Dr. Holzapfel told us about living life to the fullest and mentioned the Alpine Loop. He said the trees were in beautiful fall colors and that we should go out and drive the loop. Why not right? While in Utah, do the things that you can only do here. And so that is what we did. Today, in fact, right after school. It was great fun taking a drive on this winding road and looking at all the beautiful fall foliage. As it is a bit later in the season, alot of the trees had lost their leaves but at times the view was just striking. Seeing the sun set, seeing all these bare aspen trees standing pristine on the mountain side, looking right out your window and seeing jaw dropping rock formations. It was gorgeous. And all was learned on the Alpine loop.

I suggest going out, wherever you live and look at the beautiful world Jesus Christ has created for you and me. He put everything He had into this world. So go out and enjoy it and then thank Him for it. By looking at the world in its everyday beauty, you can get to know the Savior even better because He created it all.

Love the world and Love the Lord

So many posts...

During New Testament on Thursday we were discussing Matthew 27:25. It reads, "Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children." In context this verse is written after some of the people against Jesus cried to Pilate to crucify Christ. This is a very interesting verse especially because many people cite this verse as a reason for anti-semitism and/or the Holocaust. Naturally, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not teach anti-semitism and thus we do not interpret it as such. One of the reasons is that this phrase is spoken by Jews to Jews. Without this lens, one could very well be confused. One thing that struck me is an example that was brought up in class. Dr.Holzapfel could not understand why some very intelligent people in the church agreed in this one specific instance that this very possibly could be a reason for the Holocaust. I understand where he is coming from but I think that the actual answer to this problem of thinking that the Jews should be blamed for the death of Christ is teaching others that this is not true. And that this verse does not express it. I don't think being appalled at other's misunderstandings will change their views. And I don't think that Dr.Holzapfel meant to come across as such but I feel from some of the students faces that they also shared that appalled opinion.

I feel that although the thinking of this verse of being a reason for the Holocaust is wrong, I do believe that we should teach others to see through the actual lens in which this verse was written. And understanding should be used in a large proportion because this thought has been around since the Crusades. How can one expect others to know what this verse truly means when it has been used as a device against Jews for so long.

And thus I want all to know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not believe that this verse is a reason for the Holocaust or any other anti-semitism idea. And that when one reads the scriptures with the lens in which they were intended, one will learn the real implication behind the scripture and be able to lovingly correct those that are misunderstanding.

In preparation for the ending NT essay....

Well today Devin and I completed a New Testament assignment by recording the article Peter, The Chief Apostle by Andrew C. Skinner. First off, the article was like 25 pages and it took me like an hour and 15 minutes to read it while Devin followed along making sure I didn't skip words or lines. Even though I was parched by the end, I could not help but get emotional by the end of the article. It was so awesome to read an article that completely reiterated what we've been learning in New Testament. And it was just amazing to learn that Peter was the president of the Church of Jesus Christ back in the day after Jesus had ended His ministry. It was also so awesome to know that there have been present-day revelation on the meekness and righteousness of Peter.
The article has a section that talks about how Peter had been so protective of Christ and so willing to proclaim his association with and belief in Jesus Christ. That is why it is so hard for some to believe that although Peter had defended Jesus just hours before his three times betrayal that he then felt weakness and denied the Christ. I have also felt those same feelings but not as greatly as I did while reading the article. The actual part in the article states, "In sum, it is apparent that Jesus knew of Peter's fearlessness in defending Him. He had seen several manifestations of Peter's unswerving, almost reckless, commitment to prevent any physical harm from coming to the Savior. And this was something jesus knew could get Peter into trouble if not tempered. It would put the chief Apostle in grave physical danger. Therefore, I believe that when Jesus told Peter he would deny Him thrice before the cock crowed trice, it was not a prediction;it was a command. Some might ask, "Why then did Peter weep bitterly after his denial?" I believe these tears of frustration and sorrow in the realization that he was powerless to change the Lord's fate. He had done what needed to be done, but every impulse inside him was to act differently--to prevent the suffering of the Savior. This was a bitter pill for Peter to swallow. These were tears of frustration precisely because he was obedient but now also fully cognizant of the fact that he was going to lose his Messiah to the inevitability of death."

I hope all can read the 4 synoptic gospels and see for yourselves how righteous of a man Peter was.

Last one for September....

For some reason this past month I've been a magnet for people who need to talk to random strangers. I thought about writing about it the first time but decided not to, then the second time it happened I was just lazy, but now I'm relating it in a very weak sense to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I don't know, but I think it seems like something that would happen in the bible. I can just see Christ walking along and then someone decides to ask him a question...nothing mean or invasive just asking him what He thought or sharing with him your own thoughts about life and what means most to you .

One day as I was walking to my car someone behind me started laughing. I thought he was making fun of me but in all actuality he was laughing at himself because he was practicing dance steps as he walked behind me. He then caught up with me and started to talk to me about dancing. He then asked me if my husband danced...I didn't know what to say...we were really having a conversation without knowing each other's names. It was beautiful, exhilarating, and just plain fun. Especially because I'm married and can just be friends with people, not wonder if they want to date me, etc.

The second occasion, I was walking to the library and I was late for a group project. When I walked out of the Wilk, someone held the door open for me, I said thank you and he caught up with me. We started talking and at first he was hard to understand because he was from Kenya and had an accent. But soon it was hard because he had questions that I felt like I should really answer. He asked about finding the girl of his dreams, being true to yourself, and why all married women jump to tell a friendly guy that their married. That last point was interesting. I realized that women here at BYU, generally do that. If I guy starts to talk to them they automatically think they are being hit on and thus bring up that they are married. I've never done this as I think talking to people and getting to know them is great, whether they are married or not, man or woman, etc. At the end of the conversation he told me he wished there were more women like me out there, he called me sister and we parted at that.

I hope to be able to talk to my Savior like this. I hope to be able to tell Him about my life and thank Him and ask Him things. I love my Savior and I'm very grateful for prayer although I do not use that communication device as much as I should. I love the scriptures and how my New Testament class tries to help us get to know Christ.

Love people, talk to them.

It's 7:44 and I need two blog posts by midnight...

Well as I was doing my perusing of blogs I generally read, which include Jeff Gustafson's (Because he's awesome and his blogs are great), then my sister-in-law Shelly (Because her pictures are beautiful), and then my other sister-in-law Dana (Because she's pregnant and she does fun things), Jeff recently posted a link to his brother's blog. I read his brother's entry and really enjoyed it...it was quite long so I skimmed it but it basically talked about Salt. You might be wondering...Salt...um...okay. But really, Salt is great and I learned some new things. Apparently salt doesn't give the flavor of salt to its dishes but rather intensifies the original flavor. And after talking about the way salt is used in food, Tim (Jeff's brother) went on to talk about Jesus Christ and his teachings about salt.

There are many phrases in the bible about salt and how one is the salt of the earth. In Mark 9:50 it says "Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. It is very interesting to to think how something in our lives would and/or could intensify our own "flavors." I love Tim's explanation of how he thinks the gospel is the salt to our lives. And with this salt our good natures of Heavenly parents are intensified!

Salt is such a small thing, and yet it does so much. It flavours our food, causes cholesterol, and quickens chemical reactions. And the gospel of Jesus Christ and its principles seem so small in what is required of us and yet it does so much. It gives us hope, makes us love and be kind, it gives us a bigger pictures, and everything else. I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I hope to continue to realize how much the church does and influences my life. I am forever grateful!

Well this is supposed to be on the last post...

I don't know what happened but here's the rest of that post on Saturday...for some reason it didn't make it.

Well we've been studying the New Testament and in particular the book of Mark. Which is very interesting since it's not the first book in the New Testament. According to my professor Dr.Holzapfel, who by the way is such a great and knowledgable guy, he believes Mark was written first out of the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). He says this because Matthew and Luke borrow quite a bit of material from the book of Mark. It has been a very interesting and informative introduction to the New Testament.

Some of the best things I've learned in class so far have included the knowledge that Mark had the worst Greek and Luke had the best. Mark wrote in Rome to the Roman's in the late 60's early 70's AD. Mark's primary source was Peter and it is also interesting to note that Mark was not an apostle of Jesus Christ but a follower. The issue of authorship is interesting because some scholars don't think Mark wrote Mark. But one of the counterpoints Dr. Holzapfel issued was that since people generally put their names on books they wrote, it had to be Mark who wrote mark because someone wouldn't put Mark (who nobody really knew) as the author instead of themselves.

Anyways....lots of "interestings."

Welldity welldity well

So...I hate being forced to write in my blog...I hate being forced to write...as it is such a gratifying release of feelings, ideas, and craziness. The birthday is different and thus at least a few presents should be reserved for that.

So yeah, I'm a whiny butt but still...

My birthday sucks!

$1.50 cheesecake yesterday

So...I randomly had a thought this morning...

Yesterday I was so excited about $1.50 cheesecake at the cheesecake factory...and thus I was telling people about it so they could share in the excitement.

Which reminded me of a talk I once heard. If we had some very exciting news we would want those we love and care about to know about it....which is just what we should do about the gospel. There aren't many excuses for not sharing the gospel. Except that there are some very interesting rules for those going over to China for the olympics. But that is another story. But seriously, I had all these plans for proclaiming the truth of the gospel over the summer...and here the summer is almost over. What happened? Was I really that busy that I couldn't share the gospel.

So yeah, that's what I was thinking...cheesecake and gospel....share them both :)

What you do when facebook is down...

Blog of course.

I've been wondering about deleting this one and starting again but alas...I'll keep my ruling of the world blog and maybe make it onto Jeff's favorite blog thingys :)

And maybe one day i'll learn how to customize it and put pictures on it.

But not right now :)

Today is $1.50 cheesecake day at the cheesecake factory. Oh dear...its like a week and two days away from the wedding and i'm going to eat yummy cheesecake...hopefully i'll fit into my wedding dress...but if not that's what the corset is for :)

Have I mentioned that I love corsets :) I love love love them...i've got tons of them in all sorts of colors and they range from the fake ones with zippers to real ones that you pull and then medieval ones that you pull and are just totally hot.

I love writing...have I ever told you that I wanted to write a book. It's not a goal to have it reach the top ten list of books to read but I want to write one and get it published and I think its plausible...i'm a good writer.

I've gotten quite into memoirs and books of that sort. Read Under the Tuscan Sun...don't watch the movie. And French Women Don't Get Fat. So good, both of them!!! I read them last summer!

Can you believe that this summer I've gone to three different countries and in a little bit I'm getting married. It is so surreal. Surrealism, I learned about that this past semester. I love theatre.

Which leads me to the flipping 25 amazing plays I saw IN LONDON this spring. Gosh, it seems like yesterday. Sometimes I want to run away there and just play everything by ear and let the wind take me here and there. Which was so Paris for me! That city is so special! And backpacking it was the best.

Haha, I guess there is only one conclusion....my life rocks!!

Happy Chinese New Year

The year of the rat? Interesting. So my hypothesis that happy valley really isn't very happy became apparent today at work. My manager told me to get a backbone and be a bitch to the tax preparers at H&R Block. I wanted to cry, it's not like I'm supposed to babysit them. I give all I can to my jobs and i've had to learn all this new stuff and then now somewhere in my job description I'm supposed to be the boss and keep everyone in line when we have customers waiting. Well, I hate happy valley, and I believe its a breaking facade.

Soooo...

So I'm venturing from Facebook which is kind of interesting. Lately i've been actually bored with Facebook which is saying something since i've been a queen of Facebook for so long. But I think this is going to be a little bit more fun being able to express my thoughts and satisfy my itch to write. And don't think i'll be abandoning Facebook anytime soon, think of this as more of a side project. Yes, a side project indeed...like I need more of those :)
